After months of waiting, fundraising and holding on to hope, Lukusa Tshizubu’s dream of studying at Harvard has finally become a reality and is heartwarming proof that perseverance can carry a dream across the world!

Massachusetts, United States (08 September 2026) – After a long journey to secure his visa and finalise the necessary travel arrangements, Lukusa Tshizubu has finally and officially begun his Mechanical Engineering studies at Harvard University!

After matriculating from Parow High School with flying colours at the end of 2024 and being accepted to the Ivy League university, Lukusa faced two major challenges: securing his visa and raising the money needed for travel.

Refusing to let his dream die, or let a full bursary to study at Harvard University slip through his fingers, Lukusa raised R50,000 through a crowdfunding campaign.

But even after that achievement, another hurdle remained.

The process of obtaining a visa proved long and difficult. For more than a year, Lukusa waited for an answer.

“There were times when we all struggled to remain hopeful,” shared Lukusa’s alma mater, Hoërskool Parow High School.

“Then, on 20 August 2026, a message appeared on our WhatsApp group: ‘Lukusa is going to Harvard’ – a name we had chosen in faith long before it became reality.”

Lukusa simply wrote: “Hi. I got my visa. Next stop, Boston!”

And what a moment it was!

“Today, Lukusa is in the United States and has begun his journey at Harvard University. We could not be prouder of him,” the Parow High community shared.

The school thanked every member of the Parow family who supported Lukusa over the years, saying their encouragement, prayers and contributions helped make his dream a reality.

“And thank you, Lukusa, for reminding us to keep believing, to keep hoping, and to trust steadfastly in the Lord. Your journey is an inspiration to us all.”

It just goes to show that sometimes a dream delayed is not a dream denied – and we’re so glad Lukusa didn’t give up on his. We wish him all the best as he makes his mark at Harvard!
