Cape Town, South Africa (14 November 2022) – A South African musician has created the perfect Christmas song inspired by Cape Town, giving us all the feels!
David Watkyns – a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Cape Town – says the song has a special connection to him.
Surrounded by a musical family, David started piano at seven years old and trumpet at eight, inspired by regular visits to concerts by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and listening to selections of his father’s 16,000 vinyl collection and songwriting books. He then graduated with a Bachelor of Music from the University of Cape Town in Jazz Studies.
“Originally recorded 20 years ago by the New Apostolic Church Southern Africa, written by Deacon Edmund Bourne, it was always played loudly in the Watkyns home around Christmas time. Finding my own take on the song and adapting it with the blessing and guidance of Edmund was a truly wonderful experience.”
David released the song on Friday last week and the response has been absolutely beautiful.
