Food at Wollies Animal Shelter in Pretoria North has run dry, and the organisation is turning to the public for help to feed the many hungry bellies in its care.
Pretoria, South Africa (18 August 2026) – Wollies Animal Shelter in Pretoria North has reached out for support as its food stores have run empty, leaving the team in need of help to keep feeding the many dogs and cats who rely on them.
Wollies began more than 20 years ago as an initiative to sterilise as many animals as possible. Over time, it grew into a safe haven where abandoned, neglected and abused animals could receive care and protection while waiting to find their new homes. In its two decades, the organisation has carried out many incredible rescues.
Earlier this month, the non-profit received a vehicle to help carry out its essential work, supporting dogs and cats in need across Pretoria North and surrounding areas. The generous donation came from a donor who chose to remain anonymous.
But without enough food in storage, the shelter is facing a difficult challenge.

The team goes through five large black bins of food for dogs and two for cats every single day. While every donation makes a difference, Wollies is hoping for support to help refill its empty storerooms and ensure the animals in its care continue receiving the meals they need.
For now, the team has been forced to cook pap, rice and pasta to help feed the animals, but this is not a sustainable solution.
