A few slices of bread, a cup of hearty soup and a warm item of clothing, many living on the streets were gifted kindness last night – we can help do more.
Johannesburg, South Africa (11 July 2023) – The cold weather is far from over this week so One SMALL Act of Kindness has committed to making hearty warming soups every day this week for people in need. They managed to get ingredients and soup within 6-hours of the first Gauteng snow and have been committed to making a difference for those who needed it most.
After seeing just how many cold people are on the streets of Gauteng, One SMALL Act of Kindness have upped their personal challenge and is now planning to feed people all week long!
“Yesterday was a busy but good day. As we all know Johannesburg started the day off with SNOW!!! Which was a really cool experience for most of us but not really for those who do not have warm homes to run back into after being in awe of the snow.
So we put up a plea for “SOUP IN SIX HOURS” and our OSAOK Army got right behind us making sure that we really did get to serve soup in six hours. We also had ENOUGH to hit the streets last night a serve to more people suffering in the cold”
They also managed to hand out 120 beanies, 39 pairs of socks and 27 pairs of gloves, adding that extra layer of warmth.
How can you help?
The organisation needs help with hearty soup ingredients and/or funds to make it happen. They also welcome warm clothing which they can hand out at the same time. They need beanies, warm socks, gloves, scarves, jackets, jerseys and blankets. All these items will go a long way in fighting off the chill.
“If you would like to donate any items towards soup for those in the cold we are needing:
Leeks
Potatoes
Soup mix
Lentils
Chicken
Carrots”
