A post has gone viral, asking for assistance in making the Red Cross Children’s Hospital a little more inviting… and the response has been amazing!
The Red Cross Children’s Hospital have been incredibly successful in raising funds to improve the technology and treatment facilities of the paediatric ICU facilities.
Currently, the 22-bed paediatric ICU at the hospital is the largest in Africa.
It provides emergency care for critically ill or injured children from within the Western Cape, the rest of South Africa and the African continent, with the hospital stating that the demands on the unit are much higher than its capacity to deliver.
Construction on the unit began in October last year and is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
The 22-bed facility will increase to 39 bed spaces, and will include an “urgently needed” 10-bed high care neonatal unit as well as eight isolation cubicles.
Thanks to the generosity of individuals, families, communities, corporates, the media, trusts and foundations, the Children’s Hospital Trust met their goal for the building of the bigger and better paediatric ICU at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.
But their focus on the technology has left the front of the building looking rather dull.
Greg Bertish from “The Little Optimist” foundation noticed this and posted a plea on Facebook which has quickly gained traction.
This is the first thing kids see on arrival at Redcross Children’s hospital. This is the place that often decides their fate. Along with their will to survive and hopefully their dreams of recovery, this place is often the last hope.
We helped build the New ICU, but the first impression when arriving is of peeling, dirty, old and cracked paint falling off the exterior of the whole front of the hospital.
Help me make this first impression magical! Let’s paint this thing and make every child arriving at Redcross SMILE and feel the power of positive & optimistic vibrations.
Anyone who has contacts for paint supply , foremen , painters or volunteers ….. Share this , get them involved …
Let’s try get this all sponsored and done for Redcross Hospitals 60 year anniversary next month.
Challenge, share , contact , donate , sponsor, send ideas ….
Let’s help do this 🙂
The post has since been shared thousands of times! Individuals and corporates have all jumped on board to offer donations, their time and expertise.
A community member, Darren Ball, has even “mocked-up” what a new design might look like.
If you can assist at all, contact Greg Bertish on greg@thelittleoptimist.org.
