For over ten years, commuters have gone out of their way to find his intersections, because his joy is contagious and so are his dance moves.

Gqeberha, South Africa (19 August 2025) – Traffic has a funny way of putting lines on our faces, and not the happy kind. But in Gqeberha, one traffic officer has been turning gridlock into grins for years, proving that even life’s busiest intersections can spark a bit of joy.

Affectionately known as the city’s happiest traffic officer, he’s become somewhat of a local legend.

If you’ve ever driven through the city, chances are you’ve caught sight of his signature moves – spinning on one leg, waving cars on with a flair, and even sneaking in a pose or two when he spots a camera pointed his way.

A viral video of him posted by TikTok user Ashwin Le Breton has already clocked more than 1.1 million views, with Gqeberha commuters chiming in to say they’ve been watching him bust a move for well over fifteen years.

One user shared, “I was doing grade 3 when I first saw him, now I’m in 3rd year [University]. Always been a mood!”

The reason why everybody loves him lies in the fact that he doesn’t just direct traffic, he lightens the load of everyone stuck in it.

Commenters were also quick to point out that his positivity is a choice, one that lifts spirits far beyond the robots.

“And it’s not that he doesn’t have problems…. He just chose not to carry them everywhere he goes. Imagine how many smiles he saw that day and knowing he did that,” wrote one admirer.

Another added, “true definition of ‘life is too short to be worried.’ Make your own happiness, stop waiting for people to make you happy.”

The daily commute can often be a headache, this officer’s joy makes it a pleasure to get through.
