The Santa Cause for Paws team is in a race against time to meet its ambitious goal and ensure no kitty or doggo on its list goes without a gift this year.
South Africa (21 August 2025) – We all need someone in our corner from time to time (if not always). It’s the comforting reassurance that there’s at least one person out there looking out for us in times of need or trouble – something even our furry four-legged friends could attest to if they could speak.
The Santa Cause for Paws is their very guardian working overtime to deliver practical help and hope. The registered NPC is dedicated to collecting gifts for shelter animals patiently awaiting their forever homes at various welfare charities. Each charity sends the organisation a wishlist, and volunteers shop and pack according to that list, resources allowing. Gifts can include food, treats, warm items, toys and other useful items.
Through its year-end drive, which calls on supporters to pledge R250 to sponsor a pet in need, these animal heroes are striving to make a difference and bring a little cheer to those who would otherwise go without knowing the joy of a chew toy or a warm blankie on a chilly night.
But the Santa Cause for Paws has hit a speed bump, slowing its momentum to fulfil the goal of sponsoring all the pets on its long list by the end of the year.
“It’s looking like we may not get all the animals sponsored this year.
“We still need 2299 sponsors, and there aren’t too many months left. The great news is, 2197 animals have been sponsored and paid for, which is huge,” Santa Cause for Paws shared.
Around this time last year, they had 2,978 sponsored and paid for.
After pushing for more pledges last week, Santa Cause for Paws’ Facebook post was met with heartfelt support as numerous people responded with pledges to sponsor cats and dogs in need.
