One American visitor is having the time of his life in Mzansi! When his entertained South African audience challenged him to try out kasi cuisine, he headed straight to Soweto to indulge in a variety of locally prepared meats for the very first time.

Johannesburg, South Africa (05 September 2025) – An American visitor to Mzansi, Trenton J Davis, has been sharing some of his local adventures on social media and was recently challenged to try out some kasi soul food by his South African audience.

He was more than game and recently shared a fun video on TikTok sharing his experience of visiting a local food spot in Pimville, Soweto.

Both clueless and curious as to what to expect, Trenton wasted no time in ordering a few dishes with smoked turkey and pap as his first dish. After the first bite, he gave it a nod, saying the meat reminded him of a typical turkey leg he’d eat back at home.

He then moved on to some smoked beef tongue.

“Never had this before. I didn’t even know it was a thing,” Trenton said before dipping the delicacy in some chilli beans.

His review?

“It’s good. The chilli beans are spicy, so I shouldn’t have eaten it with that.”

Trenton also had a taste of some pork knee, which he also gave a thumbs up!

Although the generous servings of pap threw him off a bit, all in all, Trenton appeared to enjoy all the kasi food. As he puts it:

“South Africa is still showing up. I’m loving the cuisine here.”

It’s always so fun and exciting to see foreign visitors fully immerse themselves in our rich and diverse cultures and have a great time doing it too!

The video has proven a hit, garnering over 20,900 views. South Africans in the comments section of his post showered Trenton with love, admiring his content and appreciation for all things Mzansi.
