Teddy the Chow is Now Living His Best Life After Being Left Behind

Teddy was once a fluffy Chow Chow with nowhere to go. Now he’s a happy boy with a loving family, and even a girlfriend!

Gqeberha, South Africa (15 October 2025) – Sadly, Teddy was one of the many pets left abandoned when families decided to move home without a second thought for their fur-babies. It happens often, and it’s heartbreaking.

Thankfully, earlier this year, in August, Paws R Us: SA took the most adorable boy into their care and started the search for his forever home.

It didn’t take long before the right family came along and instantly fell in love with Teddy. They were prepared to move mountains to welcome him into their brood. And there were hurdles. Paws R Us is based in Johannesburg, and Teddy’s family-to-be is based along the coast in Gqeberha.

That didn’t stop love from leading the way to a wagging tail!

“Fortunately, his wait with us was a short one – his new family moved mountains to adopt him all the way from [Gqeberha],” Paws R Us shares.

Good people stepped in to make it all happen.

Save-a-Pet, an animal rescue centre based in Gqeberha, filled in on the team’s behalf and did the important home check. After they confirmed it would be the perfect spot for the fluffy pooch to land, Stephne Jackson from Watershed Animal Rescue helped arrange Teddy’s flight down to the coast, where he would meet his new family.

With all the boxes ticked, Teddy was loaded into his crate and put on a plane. An exciting new beginning waited eagerly on the other side of that flight! When Teddy stepped out of the crate at the airport, his new family love-bombed with cuddles, and the rest is history.

One of the best surprises in this story is the part where Teddy met his Chow girlfriend, Nala! They live together, and it’s pretty serious. Recently, they went on holiday together in Knysna. Their human family tagged along.

“A big thank you to [the family]. You literally changed Teddy’s life and you have showered so much love on him and Nala. Thank you for being good humans,” Paws R Us shares.

Sometimes, we go through the worst to find the best. This is especially true in Teddy’s case because he finally feels safe in a family that will never let him go!
