The aim is to show that balanced meals are possible, even under pressure, and that food can be a powerful tool for connection.
South Africa (13 January 2026) – At the Maletsatsi Foundation, food is never just about what’s on the plate, but about care, healing and consistency.
In a new kitchen series shared by the foundation, the team opens up about why balanced, home-cooked meals sit at the heart of daily life for the children in their care. For many of these children, access to food has never been guaranteed. Some have experienced food insecurity from a very young age, while others require extra nutritional support as they recover from injuries, manage health risks or grow as young athletes.
That reality is what drives the Maletsatsi kitchen.
Every day, without fail, children receive cooked meals made from scratch. These are thoughtfully prepared to meet different needs, ages and stages of development.
With close to 70 portions prepared daily, the challenge isn’t just volume, but balance. Meals that are nutritious, safe for toddlers, filling for growing bodies, and enjoyable enough to keep even the fussiest eaters coming back for more.
It’s all about bulk cooking, smart ingredient choices and meals that stretch across food groups allow the team to deliver quality nutrition on a tight budget and busy schedule.
This kitchen series will share a glimpse into those everyday meals. Not as polished recipe content, but as real life inspiration for families, caregivers and communities navigating similar challenges.
The aim is to show that balanced meals are possible, even under pressure.
