Khanyisa JamJam hilariously captures the accuracy of Afrikaans prepared speeches as learners head back to school.
South Africa (14 January 2026) – As schools reopen and learners dust off their uniforms, there’s one tradition that never fails to resurface in Afrikaans classrooms: “My Vakansie.”
The prepared oral, usually delivered with equal parts nerves and enthusiasm, has become a shared experience, especially for learners who don’t speak Afrikaans as a home language. And comedian and content creator Khanyisa JamJam has perfectly tapped into that shared experience.
In a recent video, Kanisa reenacts the classic Afrikaans oral. From holiday trips “met my familie” to eating “baie kos” and being “propvol,” the mondeling goes into chaotic storytelling.
The Afrikaans isn’t polished or textbook-perfect, and that’s exactly the point. Anyone who has ever stood in front of a class trying to remember verbs, sentence structure and pronunciation, while your classmates giggle, will recognise this struggle immediately.
With school officially back in session for many learners, Khanyisa’s video feels perfectly timed. The humour doesn’t lie in mocking, but in celebrating the awkwardness, effort and bravery of standing up to speak anyway.
