The phone has not stopped ringing, visitors are streaming into the shelter, and food stocks are running high, boosted by the incredible donation of 208 bags of dog food from SPAR!

Centurion, South Africa (15 June 2026) – The happiest update to a plea for help we shared last week!

On Friday, we called on the helpers. Husky Heaven Rescue’s food stocks had run dry. With almost 100 dogs – huskies and other breeds – in their loving care, they were left with no choice but to appeal to the public for help. On social media, they shared an image alongside their cry for support: an empty shelf. It was heartbreaking.

Then, the very next day, an email popped into our Good Things inbox…

“We’ve made arrangements for approximately 208 bags of 8kg SPAR Pro-Balance Premium Dog Food (2 pallets) to be delivered to the shelter later this afternoon,” Nishal, a reader and Senior Retail Leader at SPAR, told us.

Nishal and her team had read about the organisation’s urgent needs and wanted to help. In an incredible act of generosity, and within 48 hours of hearing about Husky Heaven Rescue’s dire situation, the retailer had coordinated the delivery of 208 bags of dog food.

“We arranged for the donation to be facilitated through SUPERSPAR Sutherland in Centurion, as the logistics were much easier to coordinate. More importantly, the retailer, Jenny Farinha, has a genuine love for dogs and immediately embraced the opportunity to support the shelter,” shared Nishal.

The handover took place on Sunday, and the SPAR team spent time at the shelter, helping to walk and feed the huskies.

“At SUPERSPAR Sutherland, we believe that every life matters, including those of animals who are often overlooked despite relying on the compassion and care of our communities. When we learned of the urgent need at Husky Heaven Rescue, we felt compelled to help and facilitated the donation of SPAR Pro-Balance dog food. As animal lovers, we are passionate about supporting organisations that give vulnerable animals a second chance and make a real difference every day.”

Brenda, co-founder of Husky Heaven Rescue, tells us that this incredible act of kindness – and the many others that have flooded into the shelter over the past few days – have left her in tears. The phone has not stopped ringing, visitors have streamed through the gates, and donations have poured in.

“I am still gobsmacked how this has helped, many people don’t even know we exist,” says Brenda. “People are still [WhatsApp messaging] and calling and you all have made this possible,” she adds. “I have cried so much this weekend…”

This is the kindness we love to see! Thanks to every Good Things Guy reader who saw the call for help and did something about it. A special thanks goes out to SPAR, proving time and time again why they’re part of the good things gang!
