Touched by the smartest and most confident eight-year-old they’ve met yet, Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels stepped in with life-changing donations to help fund Zoë Thebe’s crucial medical care and bone marrow transplant!
Johannesburg, South Africa (29 October 2026) – Adored for her bubbly, confident, and energetic personality, Zobuhle “Zoë” Thebe is an eight-year-old facing a tough health battle – but you’d never know it.
She has been in and out of the hospital for blood transfusions and chemotherapy, having been diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, an aggressive form of blood cancer.
According to Zoë’s mom, Ubokeng, in the weeks leading up to her diagnosis, she had been in and out of doctor’s offices with unexplained symptoms, including severe headaches, stomach cramps, fevers, and a flu-like illness. She grew weaker each day.
However, remarkably, this hasn’t dimmed her bright light. Zoë’s loved ones describe her as intelligent, a class captain, and dearly loved by her peers for her kind and caring nature. She is deeply sensitive to the feelings of others and is intentional about making people feel seen, valued, and included.
These are characteristics the Jacaranda FM Good Morning Angels were able to pick up as soon as she entered the room for the Breakfast with Martin Bester show yesterday morning, as they chatted with the informed young lady who can easily hold her own.
During the show, Zoë shared all about herself, her cancer journey, school, and being in remission, though she ultimately requires a bone marrow transplant.
While she is waiting for a new bone marrow donor, Zoë still needs another round of chemotherapy to keep her in remission. An organisation called Courageous Heart NPC was the one that reached out to the radio station as part of their rally to raise support and funds for Zoë, helping to cover the costs of another cycle of intensive chemotherapy (R35,000) and hospital admission (R34,246).
Moved and inspired by the young warrior’s bravery, charm, and wisdom beyond her years, Good Morning Angels got the funding ball rolling for Zoë’s bone marrow transplant fund with a donation of R100,000!
Also coming on board as a sponsor was Meat World, which committed to supporting the family with in-store vouchers for the next four months, a new iPad for Zoë to keep up with school, and the R70,000 needed for Zoë’s round of chemotherapy!
Joyful and tearful emotion filled the studio as Ubokeng and Zoë received the incredible news – and we’re sharing in their delight!
Prayers have been answered, generous hearts have moved a family scrambling to make up medical funds from a position of lack to one of abundance, and a phenomenal young girl is about to receive lifesaving care because of it.
