The light-hearted clip has resonated with locals who know the struggle of sunny days and freezing living rooms.
Midlands, South Africa (18 June 2026) – A light-hearted video shared by content creator Maia (or better known as LekkerVietnam) has struck a chord with South Africans by perfectly capturing one of the country’s most relatable winter experiences: it’s often warmer outside than it is inside the house.
The Vietnam-born creator, who lives in KwaZulu-Natal with her South African husband, is seen walking outdoors dressed in light summer clothing. But the moment she steps inside, she suddenly appears covered by a gown and a warm cup of tea.
She then repeats the routine, stepping back outside into sunshine and lighter clothing before returning indoors and instantly transforming into “winter mode” once again. Her conclusion is to stay outside where it is warmer. While sunny winter days can feel pleasantly warm outdoors, stepping inside can be a completely different experience.
The video also reflects the growing popularity of Lekker Vietnam’s content, which blends Vietnamese and South African cultures through everyday observations, food and family life.
However, now she reminds us that sometimes the warmest place in winter isn’t the couch inside the house, it’s standing in the sun outside.
