From Seshego to Switzerland! Two Limpopo robotics school teams recently progressed through the local, provincial and national rounds of the Robotics for Good Youth Challenge to ultimately represent South Africa in Geneva, where they showcased their innovative solutions to real-life problems.

Geneva, Switzerland (16 July 2026) – From the humble heart of Seshego in Limpopo, two schools have defied the odds and exceeded expectations to take their place on the global stage.

The Robo-Kidz team from Mashupye Tladi Primary School and the Roborise team from Bokamoso Secondary School qualified as South Africa’s representatives at the prestigious Robotics for Good Youth Challenge Grand Finale in Geneva, Switzerland.

The two teams earned their place after progressing through the local, provincial and national rounds of the competition.

The Grand Finale ran from 7 to 10 July 2026 at the Palexpo International Exhibition and Convention Centre, where these rising roboticists competed against teams from 50 countries to design, build and programme robots that could help solve real-world food security and farming challenges.

Though it was team Venezuela that emerged as the double champion for 2026, our South African teams put up a strong fight and flew the SA flag high.

The South African Department of Basic Education congratulated Robo-Kidz and Roborise for representing the country, noting that their achievement reflects the growing impact of its investment in coding and robotics education. This forms part of the department’s commitment to equipping learners with the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to succeed in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

As South Africa continues to expand the implementation of Coding and Robotics across the schooling system, achievements like these reinforce the vision of developing a generation of digitally capable, innovative and globally competitive learners.

“These learners are highlighting the best of South African education on the global stage. Their success proves what is possible when we invest in innovation, quality teaching and meaningful opportunities that allow young people to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges,” said Acting Director for Communications, Terence Khala.

From impressively coming out tops in every round at home to travelling across the world and standing among some of the world’s rising innovative thinkers, these brilliant young minds have made South Africa proud!
