After adding the U20 Rugby Championship to their trophy cabinet earlier this year, the Junior Boks have now completed an unforgettable season with another world title
Tbilisi, Georgia (20 July 2026)- South Africa’s future rugby stars have done it again!
The Junior Springboks are officially back-to-back World Rugby U20 Championship winners, successfully defending their title in Tbilisi, Georgia, after defeating France 16-5 in Saturday’s final.
Kevin Foote’s side has now made history as the first South African Under-20 team ever to win consecutive Junior World Championship titles. The achievement mirrors the success of the senior Springboks, who famously lifted back-to-back Rugby World Cups in 2019 and 2023.
The title defence also caps off an unforgettable season for the Junior Boks, who earlier this year claimed the U20 Rugby Championship crown before carrying that momentum onto the global stage.
Even challenging conditions couldn’t stop South Africa’s young stars. With heavy weather delaying kick-off by 45 minutes, the Junior Boks adapted brilliantly, producing another composed performance when it mattered most.
Flyhalf Yaqeen Ahmed once again played a leading role, contributing 11 points with the boot, while Markus Muller crossed for South Africa’s only try of the evening. Just as impressive was the team’s defensive effort, refusing to let France build any real momentum throughout the contest.
The victory also stretches the Junior Boks’ unbeaten run to 18 matches, a streak dating back to last year’s World Championship in Italy.
For a team already building a reputation as one of the most exciting young squads in world rugby, this latest triumph is another reminder that South Africa’s rugby pipeline continues to produce champions.
Another world title safely tucked away, there’s every reason for South African rugby fans to feel excited about what lies ahead.
