Rather than allowing a life-altering injury to bring his life to a standstill, Devon has wholeheartedly embraced new challenges, turning his journey into a source of strength for both himself and others.
Eastern Cape, South Africa (28 July 2026) – There is so much to admire about someone who faces a life-altering event with the kind of resilience that refuses to let it define their future.
On 9 September 2022, Devon Bosman sustained a complete C7 spinal cord injury while playing rugby – a pivotal moment, but one that has not dictated who he is or how far he will go.
Though still currently working towards completing his Grade 12, Devon has immersed himself in his personal growth and set his sights on an exciting new chapter. He is currently writing and preparing to publish a book based on his own journey and is seeking funding to print the first 100 copies.
He is also exploring motivational speaking courses, with the goal of turning his journey into a source of inspiration and encouragement for both himself and others facing adversity.
Rugby remains a passion close to Devon’s heart. He is already making a meaningful impact in his community as the manager of the Kruisfontein United Under-21 rugby club. He does all this while also remaining committed to his rehabilitation, attending two biokinetic sessions each month while faithfully following a home exercise programme twice a week.
A recipient of the Chris Burger Petro Jackson Players’ Fund, a non-profit organisation that cares for catastrophically injured rugby players in South Africa for life, Devon recently received a visit from Shoneé Cornelissen at his home in Humansdorp to check up on his progress. He was surrounded by a close group of friends whose unwavering support and companionship have become a constant source of strength in his life.
What stood out for Shoneé the most during their time together was Devon’s infectious positivity.
“He is constantly smiling, full of life, and radiates a joy that draws people to him. After spending time with him, it’s easy to understand why his friends are always by his side. His resilience, determination, and uplifting spirit are a true inspiration to everyone fortunate enough to know him.”
Now, that is quite something. Devon’s relentless drive to turn personal hardship into a catalyst for personal development is nothing short of amazing. By throwing himself into these diverse creative and professional pursuits, this young man continuously proves that true growth begins the moment you decide to keep moving forward.
