In the middle of their own health battles, Charles, Kgothatso, Thatohatsi and Somila are dreaming beyond themselves, hoping to one day be part of the healing of others.

South Africa (08 September 2026 ) – Charles, Kgothatso, Thatohatsi and Somila may come from different parts of the country and be walking different paths, but they share two powerful things in common: inspiring resilience and a dream to help sick children one day.

All four youngsters are brave warriors courageously facing complex illnesses, and each was recently given a special break from it all when the Reach for a Dream Foundation team visited them for their Dream Days.

Full of character, joy and laughter, 15-year-old Charles from Vredenburg recently underwent a kidney transplant and now carries a renewed sense of hope and courage.

In his words, he shared his hope to one day become a doctor so he can “do the impossible and help people.” After enjoying a fun-filled day of indoor trampoline jumping and laughter, he was gifted a cellphone, a special gadget to help him explore his interests and bring him closer to his dream.

Thirteen-year-old Kgothatso from Kwamhlanga is caring and full of passion. She dreams of one day inventing a robot that can help other children who are also sick, ensuring they receive prompt and advanced care.

Her Dream Day included seeing some of her favourite animals on an exciting game drive – an experience that put the biggest smile on her curious face. She also enjoyed a relaxing two-night stay with her family, creating memories they will cherish for a lifetime.

From Bloemfontein, six-year-old Thatohatsi is bravely living with a rare type of cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma. She hopes to grow up to become a doctor so she can help other little children with cancer and make a difference in their lives.

She is playful and curious, and loves to explore with her dolls right by her side.

From East London, 12-year-old Somila is calm, compassionate and enjoys life’s simple pleasures, especially her favourite snacks. She too dreams of one day becoming a doctor so she can help other people.

Her Dream Day was a relaxing poolside picnic at Garden Court with her mom. The pair enjoyed bonding over a painting activity, sharing smiles, favourite snacks and quiet glances with each other.

Each child was treated to a lovely outing and a special gadget, chosen not only to brighten their day but also to help bring them closer to gaining the knowledge they need to realise their bold and beautiful dreams.

In the face of their own brave battles, Charles, Kgothatso, Thatohatsi and Somila’s dreams are especially touching because they reach beyond themselves, carrying a beautiful hope to care for the health and well-being of others.
