Kyalami is about to make motorsport history as the Michelin 24H SERIES heads to Africa for the very first time in January 2027.
Johannesburg, South Africa (21 September 2026) – South African motorsport fans, you may want to clear your calendars for January because something very exciting is coming to Kyalami.
For the first time in the history of the Michelin 24H SERIES, the international endurance racing championship is heading to Africa and it has chosen one of South Africa’s most iconic circuits for its continental debut.
From the 8th to 10th of January 2027, the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in Midrand will host an inaugural 24-hour race, bringing premium international endurance racing back to the legendary track for the first time since 2023. And yes, that means 24 hours. Cars racing through the afternoon, into the South African sunset, all through the night and back into the morning. For local motorsport fans, this is going to be quite something.
The announcement comes from international endurance racing promoter CREVENTIC, which has confirmed that the renowned Michelin 24H DUBAI will relocate to Kyalami following ongoing uncertainty in the Gulf region and the resulting challenges around logistics, transport planning and operational costs. While the circumstances behind the move were unexpected, the result is a massive opportunity for South Africa and another chance for Kyalami to show the international motorsport community exactly what it has to offer.
“Kyalami is an exceptional motorsport destination and we are delighted by the warm reception we have received from the entire team,” a CREVENTIC spokesperson said.
“The circuit, facilities and professionalism of the organisation make it a natural fit for the Michelin 24H SERIES, and we are excited to bring our competitors and fans to South Africa for this landmark event.”
Anyone familiar with Kyalami will understand why the circuit makes such an exciting home for endurance racing. Its dramatic elevation changes, blind crests and fast-flowing corners create a demanding challenge for drivers during a conventional race, never mind one stretching across an entire day and night. Behind the scenes, the circuit is also equipped for an international event of this scale, with 40 secure pit garages, modern infrastructure and premium hospitality facilities ready to welcome teams, competitors and spectators from around the world.
Major international sporting events bring far more than what happens on the track. Teams, crews, supporters and international visitors will arrive in Gauteng, stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants, explore Johannesburg and experience the hospitality South Africans know so well.
