South Africa claimed the ODI series 2-1 and will now prepare for a three-Test battle against Australia.
Potchefstroom, South Africa (01 October 2026) – Proteas Turn the Page to Test Cricket After Series Win
The Proteas have done what they came to do! And that’s beating Australia in the ODI series, and now it’s time to swap the coloured kit for the whites.
South Africa wrapped up a 2-1 series victory over Australia after winning the first two matches in Durban and Johannesburg. Australia claimed the rain-affected final ODI in Potchefstroom, but by then the series belonged to the Proteas.
Keshav Maharaj was one of the standout performers across the series and was named Player of the Series, adding another highlight to what was a successful campaign for South Africa.

But there isn’t much time to celebrate.
The Proteas now turn their attention to the longer format, with Australia waiting for a three-Test series that begins at Kingsmead on 9 October.
From there, the teams head to St George’s Park in Gqeberha before the series finale at Newlands in Cape Town.
And there is plenty on the line, with the Tests forming part of the current World Test Championship cycle.
There are also a few selection questions still to be answered, particularly around the bowling attack, with Kagiso Rabada working his way back from a hamstring injury.
South Africa will also welcome back several fast-bowling options, including Anrich Nortje, Gerald Coetzee and Dane Paterson.
For now, ODI job done. Test mode loading.
