For Stellenbosch University student and musician Erynn, independence just got a whole lot brighter with his new guide dog partner, a gorgeous black Labrador named Kylie!

Stellenbosch, South Africa (02 November 2026) – Everyone deserves a trusted friend by their side through life’s simple and demanding moments. Sometimes, that friend arrives on four paws!

For a young person navigating the ups and downs of school, social life, and stepping out into independence, a guide dog is so much more than a navigation tool. They are an equal partner in freedom. While a cane helps detect obstacles, a guide dog brings a sense of effortless movement, helping them through crowded hallways, busy streets, and new adventures with genuine confidence.

Erynn, a student at Stellenbosch University, recently found his perfect four-legged partner in Kylie: a beautiful black Labrador matched with him by the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind.

With a special talent for playing the drums, Erynn is pursuing his love for music and singing at SU. When varsity holidays come around, he heads home to KZN to spend time with his family and his two other dogs, a Great Dane and a Cattle Dog.

Kylie arrives not only as a welcome addition to the pack, but as an ideal match for Erynn. According to the Guide-Dogs Association, she shares his love for the outdoors and exploring new walking routes.

“But perhaps what makes their connection even more special is her interest in his world of music. She has even shown a keen interest in joining in when Erynn sings! It seems Kylie hasn’t quite decided whether she’s a singer just yet, but we think she’s already found her favourite person to make music with.”

Their immediate bond just goes to show that the impact of having a guide dog goes beyond just getting around; they are essential to living a well-balanced life and offer unmatched companionship. Together, these two are now finding their own rhythm, one adventure, one walk and perhaps the occasional singalong at a time.

“We wish Erynn and Kylie a lifetime of wonderful adventures together!” concluded the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind.
