The JMPD assisted CLAW in rescuing a rogue Vervet Monkey found roaming a Soweto suburb; with growing crowds, the JMPD aided in keeping things calm.

Meadowlands, South Africa (06 January 2022) – CLAW (Community Led Animal Welfare) were recently alerted to a rogue Vervet Monkey on the loose in Meadowlands, Soweto. Curious residents were hampering their rescue attempts, and backup was needed.

JMPD Officer L. Mthimkulu and colleagues arrived on the scene to assist the rescue efforts and disperse the growing crowd. The JMPD’s efforts meant the stressed Vervet Monkey was safely caught and transported to the CLAW facility. They will now make sure the monkey is released somewhere safe.

Cora Bailey, the founder of CLAW, reached out to Good Things Guy to share her thanks to JMPD officer Mthimkulu. She explained that without her help, they would not have been able to complete the rescue.

“On behalf of CLAW (Community Led Animal Welfare) I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the amazing JMPD officers who assisted us today in Meadowlands

Our efforts to rescue a Vervet Monkey were severely hampered by an increasing number of onlookers.

We commend your officers for their professionalism and courtesy. Our efforts were successful, an innocent animal is safe, and will soon be on his way to a more suitable habitat.

We could not have achieved it without your help!

Sometimes officers are called away from their day-to-day duty to do something special for the community. While a JMPD officer won’t usually work in animal rescue when the call for help came, the officers arrived; ready and willing.
