Tip

A very generous customer at Massimo’s left a massive tip that was substantially large; Massimo rushed to make sure it wasn’t a mistake, and the customer insisted it was very much intended.

Hout Bay, South Africa (08 September 2022) – The world is returning to normal; people are earning money again, and generous hearts are splurging once again. Good Things Guy has shared many stories about customers leaving big tips, but it has been a while since our last one. Massimo’s in Hout Bay shared a big tip that was received this week.

Massimo’s has the “best pizza in Africa” as voted in 2021 and even better hearts! Whenever there is a need, Massimo and his team come up with a way to give back.

Massimo and Tracy opened Massimo’s in 2009, in Hout Bay, Western Cape. They are incredibly passionate about food, their clients and bettering South Africa!

They started a “pay-it-forward” campaign at the beginning of 2015 to make it easier for the Hout Bay community to give back. While they were open, Massimo’s clients could buy one or more R10 ‘virtual’ slices of pizza, and for every six slices sold, Massimo’s would deliver an entire pizza to a local charity or institution. This is still an option on their slips, to this day!

On the evening of the 6th of September 2022, one of Massimo’s waiters brought over a slip to show him the tip. He quickly ran after the customer to ensure there wasn’t a mistake, and the customer confirmed the tip was the correct amount.

“Looking for a mathematician to confirm… Is this a 950% tip?
There is still love in Hout Bay.”

A rough estimate pushed the percentage of the tip at 950%, but we did the maths (albeit a bit slowly), and it worked out to around 944%. That is a huge tip! It will go a long way to benefitting the staff at Massimo’s.
