After 10 years, Slinky, the lost cat, has returned home, thanks to his microchip and his family having the same number all these years later.

Randburg, South Africa (04 January 2024) – Petro Du Pisani got the very best Christmas gift when the Randburg SPCA called to let her know, they had found her lost cat. Petro was left momentarily speechless and then explained that Slinky had actually been missing for the past 10 years!

Petro shared the happy news on her Facebook, explaining that Slinky had gone missing six months after the family had moved to a new suburb. That was in 2013 and they were devastated. They searched high and low but Slinky was gone.

Fast forward ten years and Slinky had ended up at the Randburg SPCA. Like all animals that end up in South African shelters, Slinky was scanned for a microchip and it pinged!

The team called Petro and then called the moment a Christmas miracle. Slinky will now be able to retire and spend his golden years back home where he belongs.

“This kitty came to us as a stray. Luckily he was microchipped so we immediately contacted the owners.
To our astonishment the owner told us Slinky has been missing for the LAST 10 YEARS.
Slinky and his owners have been reunited.
Yet another example of the importance microchipping!”

The Randburg SPCA has microchipping available for R200, so if you would like to have your animal chipped, be sure to reach out and make an appointment. Alternatively, if your pet has a microchip already, be sure to keep your details updated on the system so should one day your pet go missing, you can be easily reached.
