The Animal Welfare Society of PE was visited by the local fire station who helped top up their water tanks after maintenance left them without water for the animals.
Gqeberha, South Africa (05 July 2023) – Members of the public, water shops and the local fire station all came to the Animal Welfare Society of Port Elizabeth’s aid recently when they sent out a plea for water. The animal welfare organisation didn’t have access to drinking water for their animals and needed a helping hand.
They shared the plea on Facebook on the 3rd of July 2023 and within hours, people were arriving with water for the animals. The animal welfare’s main water supply was cut while undergoing maintenance and before long, they were out of drinking water.
The Animal Welfare Society of Port Elizabeth was founded in 1971 to help the municipality in Port Elizabeth with the number of stray animals and cruelty cases in the city. Today the organisation has over 30 staff members and makes a huge difference in the lives of animals in need.
They rely on the support of the public so recently when they needed water, they turned to the public for help. A local business specialising in water, Marene, donated 100L to the organisation. Then, a short while later the organisation was paid a visit by the local firefighters who came to fill their JoJo tanks.
“We made an urgent appeal for drinking water for our furry friends yesterday – and BOY did we feel the love and sup-PAW-t from our bay! We received immediate donations of drinking water and a special visit from the NMBM Fire & Emergency Services to fill our tanks until our main municipal supply is restored!
We are so very blessed, thank YOU for helping us in a time of need!
PS: Do you recognise the voice in the video? We welcome our new AWS PE Fundraiser to the team….but we won’t let the cat our the bag just yet”
