Nando's #RightMyName Spell Check

Nando’s is taking on spell check and autocorrect in a bid to make sure all South Africans can finally type their names without seeing that annoying red line.

Hi Tshedimoso. Hi Kobus. Hi Nawaal. Hi Tshilidzi. Hi Sakhiwo. Hi Farirai. In a country as diverse as Mzansi, how come spell check keeps telling us our names are wrong?

Are you tired of having your name underlined in red every time you type it into a document?

Well, Nando’s has started a campaign that aims to create a database of local names that you can pop into your dictionary so you aren’t left feeling like your name is a mistake.

Nando’s new tongue-in-cheek campaign is called #RightMyName campaign and it’s asking customers to visit www.rightmyname.co.za. to add their name to a massive national database.

Then, on Human Rights Day, you’ll be able to download a full list of names to add to your spellcheck dictionary and get rid of the red line beneath South African names.

“Hi, Welcome to our casa.

If you’re here, it’s probably because you’re seeing red.

We don’t blame you. Our diversity is part of what makes Mzansi great, and we think it’s totally crazy that the tech we use every day still tells us that our names are a mistake.

So let’s fix our sh*t. Add your name below to a new database of South African names, and help us #rightmyname by Human Rights Day 2018.

Then, on 21 March this year, you’ll be able to update your spellcheck dictionary and get rid of the red line beneath your name – and the names of all your friends and family too.

We’re all in this together, South Africa – so let’s Fire It Up!”
