With fake car crashes, taste tests and a sassy star named Anna, Outeniqua Spar is serving up more than groceries… they’re dishing out laughs, relatability and serious local love.

Western Cape, South Africa (03 May 2025) – There’s something refreshingly brilliant happening in George, and no, it’s not just the mountain air or the coast calling. It’s coming straight out of the aisles of the Outeniqua Spar, where a local supermarket team has taken the internet by storm with their hilarious, creative and proudly South African approach to social media.

From the outside, you’d expect this to be just another Spar store. But scroll through their social media feeds and it’s a different story altogether.

Fake car accidents to launch specials? Check. Taste tests that have customers belly-laughing? Absolutely. Letting their Gen Z team run wild with quirky content ideas? 100%. And South Africans are loving it.

“You guys have the best social media 😭😭 top tier marketing,” one user wrote, while another added,

“Marketing at its finest!!! ATE and left no crumbs 🔥.”

That’s not just praise, it’s admiration for a local store that’s daring to do things differently.

At the centre of it all is Anna, the unfiltered, fabulous star of the show. Whether she’s dramatically taste-testing new products or throwing side-eyes that would make Meryl Streep jealous, Anna is winning hearts faster than a two-for-one special.

“The way I wanna have cocktails with this diva,” someone commented, summing up what most of the internet seems to be feeling. Others have called her “a living legend” and “such a delight ❤️”.

She’s not an actress. She’s not a marketing executive. She’s just Anna, being herself, having fun and making South Africans laugh during the weekly shop.

We absolutely love what the Outeniqua Spar team is doing. It’s clever content but it’s also about connection. It’s reminding us that joy can be found in the every day and that laughter truly is the secret sauce. They’re also showing what happens when businesses trust their people, lean into creativity and embrace the uniquely South African flavour that makes us all who we are.

And if that’s what the future of marketing looks like, we’re all in.
