All 22,000 entries for the 2026 Comrades Marathon have been snapped up in record time, as runners from across South Africa and the world gear up for the Ultimate Human Race.

South Africa (04 November 2025) – History has repeated itself and this time, faster than ever. Entries for the 2026 Comrades Marathon has officially sold out in under 10 hours, making it the fastest-selling race in the event’s storied history.

Entries for one of the world’s oldest and largest ultramarathon opened on 3 November, and within hours, thousands of eager runners had secured their place in what will be the 99th edition of the iconic race. For those counting down, there are 221 days to go until the start of the 2026 Up Run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.

According to the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA), more than 11,000 general entries were snapped up shortly after the window opened, following an initial batch of over 2,600 entries reserved for Green Number Club and CMA members.

“This overwhelming response is a testament to the unbelievable passion and support you have for the Ultimate Human Race,” the CMA said. “Thank you to every single runner for making history today.”

The speed at which entries sold out continues a trend from recent years. In 2025, over 40% of entries were taken within 24 hours, while the 2024 race saw 10,000 entries gone in just one day. However, the 2026 race has set a new benchmark for enthusiasm and demand.

Known as The Ultimate Human Race, the Comrades Marathon remains a defining event in South African sport, drawing elite athletes and everyday runners alike from across the globe.

The 2026 Up Run promises to test endurance and heart as runners take on the gruelling route from the coast to the capital. Once again, South Africans have shown they are more than ready for the challenge.

On 14 June 2026, while all eyes will be on the frontrunners like Gerda Steyn and Tete Dijana, the Comrades Marathon is also about about the runners chasing personal goals, fundraising for causes, and simply taking part in the Ultimate Human Race. We can’t wait to see them out on the route, giving it their all.
