A stunning performance from the Drakies, in one of the world’s oldest known caves!

Mbombela, South Africa (09 July 2026) – The Drakensberg Boys Choir is currently making its way through Mpumalanga on its national Amaculo 2026 Sunshine tour.

This week, the angelic voices of the Drakies lit up the giant underground chamber of the Miriam Makeba Hall, in one of the world’s oldest known cave systems and a natural wonder of South Africa, the Sudwala Caves.

The caves are located about 35 km from Mbombela on the Panorama Route. They are one of South Africa’s most astounding natural attractions – the rock they’re carved into dates back around 2.8 to 3 billion years, while the caves themselves are estimated to have formed roughly 240 million years ago!

The surprise performance came after the boys enjoyed some well-earned downtime exploring the spectacular natural wonder. Before leaving, they gathered in the underground hall to put on a show.

Soft but powerful sounds of Scandinavian choral music echoed through the ancient space, giving visitors a once-in-a-lifetime surprise!

“Thank you to the Drakensberg Boys Choir for sharing your remarkable talent and to all our visitors who became part of this special moment. Some of the best memories are the ones you never see coming.” shared the Sudwala Caves operating company.

The Drakies tour bus is making its way through Middelburg, Mbombela, Komatipoort, and Ermelo from 6 to 11 July.
