This year’s Durban July dazzled with an array of stunning looks, showcasing everything from shimmering gold tones and eye-catching sequins to playful fluffy feathers and vibrant shades of blue denim.

 

Durban, South Africa (08 July 2025) – The 2025 Durban July theme, “Marvels of Mzansi,” encouraged attendees, celebrities, and designers alike to unleash their creativity and think outside the box. Each outfit became a vibrant celebration of the unique beauty and diversity that our nation has to offer, making for a truly unforgettable event!

Here’s a style recap of eight beautiful looks that turned heads at this year’s dazzling display of high fashion, high stakes and high society.

1. Dripping in gold

Gold is one of our most prized natural resources, and social media influencer Mihlali Ndamase dripped in it. Her ensemble featured a sleek metallic silhouette with a striking Ndebele print running down the middle – a creative take on one of the country’s greatest exports.

2. Denim: The heart of SA’s street style

Denim isn’t just fabric; it’s a canvas of the culture, and Content Creator Kagiso Mogola gave it new life. Draped in the popular fabric from top to toe with blue and gold body paintwork, his striking look honoured Mzansi’s street style, which he declares “is loud, layered, and unapologetically real”.

3. Honouring the women who came before us

DJ and Radio Host, Lamiez Holworthy’s gown powerfully celebrated the iconic women who have shaped our nation.

With images of Albertina Sisulu, Imelda Stoker, Winnie Mandela, Miriam Bibi Stoker, Betty Khombo Masitha, Brenda Fassie, Lebo Mathosa stitched to her dress, she honoured the marvels of Mzansi who have walked before us, their courage woven through every crystal and curve.

4. The angelic blue crane

South Africa’s national bird, the blue crane, was the inspiration behind social media personality Sithelo Shozi’s blue feathery dress that hugged at the curves and showcased the bird’s angelic appearance.

5. Reed: a quiet, ever-present marvel

South African actress, Linda Mtoba surprised in a form-fitting dress made out of reed, paying homage to the woven baskets and mats that are common across many cultures in South Africa and the continent.

6. Celebrating football rivalry

Khutso Theledi brought the “love of the game” to life by paying tribute to one of the greatest rivalries in South African football: Kaizer Chiefs vs Orlando Pirates.

Her dress drew inspiration from the deep pride, passion, and culture embedded in the Soweto Derby, a rivalry that represents more than just football but the very essence of Mzansi’s football culture.

7. A love letter SA’s Mother Nature

Award-winning actress Thando Thabethe’s dress was a love letter to South Africa’s soul, where valleys cradle winding rivers, mountains rise in quiet majesty, and the sky bursts into purple and orange at sunset. Inspired by the rich textures of indigenous flora and the rhythm of the land itself, every detail reflected the beauty and grace of a country where nature speaks in colour and movement.

8. Bringing the protea to life
