100 young ladies will no longer suffer the inconvenience and educational disruption caused by period poverty, thanks to the Mission Thando Khabazela Soup Kitchen’s partnership with The Angel Network Durban.

Quarry Heights, South Africa (17 July 2025) – We hear about it far too often, more than we’d like to admit, that countless young ladies are forced to miss school because they cannot afford to buy sanitary pads.

It is the harsh reality of period poverty and the main motivation behind the partnership between Mission Thando Khabazela Soup Kitchen and The Angel Network Durban.

Yesterday, 100 young ladies from the Quarry Heights community and surroundings, were presented with reusable pads and panties, a vital step in ensuring they can stay in school and manage their periods with confidence.

“Today was a VERY BIG day for the girls in our community, and we’re filled with great pride! With the Angel Network, an organisation that cares deeply for the needy, we donated reusable pads and panties to girls in our community. They were over the moon happy! Their parents were equally thrilled,” Thando Mission shared in a post.

Adding to the impact were ladies from Subz Pads who provided invaluable education.

“They taught the girls extensively how to use and care for themselves during their periods, emphasising the importance of reusable pads and sharing the many advantages of this eco-friendly choice.”

Many young ladies from the unprivileged communities often miss school during their periods because they can’t afford to buy sanitary pads. However, through this well-received donation, the tweens won’t have to suffer this inconvenience, as the reusable sanitary wear lasts up to five years, ensuring they have access to menstrual care for a long time.

“We’re so grateful to The Angel Network Durban for their incredible generosity and compassion. Your partnership helped make a tangible difference in the lives of these girls!

“We’re also thankful to Subz Pads for empowering our girls with knowledge and confidence,” Thando Mission thanked.

Together, these charities are working to break down barriers and are changing one very big thing for countless girls, ensuring they have the opportunity to pursue their education.
