Project Noorhoeked unveiled its 6th EcoBrick Bench this past week; the bench was made up of nearly 1000 bottles filled with plastic waste.
Noordhoek, South Africa (11 April 2023) – Project Noordhoeked has been making a massive impact in the Noordhoek Valley over the last few years. The project has seen the development of several programmes which help combat pollution, litter and poaching along the beautiful coastline. One of these projects includes benches made using EcoBricks.
The most recent EcoBrick bench was unveiled just before the long weekend. The bench was filled with almost 1000 bottles filled with plastic waste, which is well over 400kgs of waste.
“Project Noordhoeked has built another bench down at the beach using about 1000 ecobricks! It’s the 6th one we’ve built in the valley!” – Karoline Hanks
Project Noordhoeked is a non-profit community project, founded by Karoline Hanks. The project creates jobs for a few people in the community while working to protect the environment. This small team keeps Noordhoek tidy, cleaning the streets and beaches of litter, clearing the local wetland of snares, clearing the environment of invasives and working on any projects that benefit the community as a whole.
Edgar Phiri and William Chirwa are two of the men who have benefitted from employment by the community project. They cycled through the rain to be present for the bench opening. These incredible men are dedicated to the cause and to helping better the community whenever needed.
