Apollo, the devoted dog who captured a community’s heart, is once again in need of a home. And now, the call goes out to help honour the love he shared with his late best friend, Judd.

Johannesburg, South Africa (06 April 2025) – Fourways and Bryanston locals will no doubt remember Judd Aron, the gentle soul with the kind eyes who stood at robots with his faithful dog, Apollo, always at his side. Theirs was a bond that softened traffic jams and tugged on the heartstrings of an entire community. Judd didn’t have much, but what he did have, he gave to Apollo… his love, his care and his unwavering protection.

When Judd sadly passed away earlier this year, the news shook those who had watched the inseparable pair for years. In the days that followed, we shared an article that brought clarity and comfort: Apollo had not gone missing, as many feared, but was being lovingly cared for by Judd’s friend. We were told he had found a home, and we were relieved.

However, as of this weekend, new information has come to light.

Apollo is now in the care of Stafford Rescue Africa and is once again looking for a permanent, loving home, one that can provide him with comfort, security, and lots of love in his golden years.

“We have all known Apollo for many many years now. Apollo lived on the street with his best friend. Protecting his human from robot to robot to get by every day so they can share a meal together.

The community helped Apollo and his human throughout the years and we have just got to say that Apollo’s human just loved and adored his boy even in his difficult circumstances.

He did it all for Apollo.

Heartbreakingly Apollo’s favourite human passed away which left our boy feeling broken and lost.

But very soon after a super special fairy god mother swooped Apollo up and took care of him, loves him and helped him heal with the loss of his Daddy, now he is in our care and ready for a loving retirement home!

So family, we are now happy to report our big boy is ready and looking for his fur-ever home”

This is not just a regular adoption case. Apollo is an older dog who needs a special kind of family, one that understands his journey, his trauma, and his needs. He’s on a special diet and receives monthly Librella injections for his bones. He also needs to be the only pet in the home so he can enjoy his retirement as the much-deserved centre of attention.

We’ve spoken directly with Lauren from Stafford Rescue Africa and are in ongoing communication with her. Apollo was placed in a foster home and everyone truly believed it would become his forever home. But sometimes, even with the best intentions and the kindest hearts, things don’t work out as hoped.

Apollo, it turns out, is happiest when he’s the only dog, and that’s okay. He deserves a space where he can fully relax, be showered in love and not have to share the spotlight. Let’s approach this with kindness and compassion. No one failed him, they simply helped him take another step toward the right forever home. What matters most now is Apollo’s well-being and finding him that soft landing where he can finally feel at home.

If you or someone you know can offer this legendary pup the soft landing he needs, please reach out to Stafford Rescue Africa:

Let’s come together once again, the way we always do, and honour Judd’s memory by giving Apollo the forever home he deserves.

*This is an ongoing story. We will continue to share updates as we receive more information.
