An internationally recognized documentary photographer has taken a step back to reflect on the beauty of South Africa with a moment while in Hout Bay.
Justin Sullivan has been exploring photography in the greater Cape Town (South Africa) region for the past 3 years, broadening his expertise in Documentary Photography – specialising in Cape Wild Fires.
After completing his secondary schooling at the prestigious all-boys-boarding school Michaelhouse, Sullivan studied Development & Environmental Studies at the University of Stellenbosch. With completed majors in Geography & Environmental Studies, Public & Development Management, and a half-major in Sociology, Sullivan’s documentary work is theoretically sound.
Sullivan now focusses his work on highlighting contemporary issues within South Africa, using photography to display insights into an unknown world. His documentary work from numerous Wild Fires around Cape Town has been highly recognised both locally and internationally, with various publications for print and online media.
But the talented creative has taken a step back to reflect on the beauty of South Africa with a simple moment while in Hout Bay.
“The first few months of 2017 have been both exhilarating and concerning for many South Africans. We have witnessed some great moments and some terrifying ones. I tend to expose the hard truths of reality sometimes, and even though it may be for a good cause – it’s not always easy on the eyes and heart.”
“So, I took my first flight yesterday morning and came up with something a bit more soothing for a change. Without forgetting the challenges we face as a nation today, tomorrow and for years to come, I wanted to show something light, to remind us that we share this world with so many, and it is absolutely beautiful.”
