Groceries are going nude to save the planet. Cape Town is getting its first plastic-free grocery shop where you can BYO-containers.

The waste-free grocery stores started becoming hot topics earlier this year. We shared a story about a waste-free grocery store in Australia at the beginning of the year and our readers loved the idea. Now South Africa is getting one this year!

Cape Town will get its first plastic-free grocery shop this November. The shop being launched is called Nude Food and will supply everything you might need but without the plastic. They are marketing themselves as a Nude Grocer and are a…

Plastic-free grocery store, offering non-GMO, healthy and affordable wholefoods and earth-friendly body and home products – all sold by weight.

According to the store only 17% of plastic is recycled and the rest ends up in our oceans and landfills. The store will have a BYO (bring your own) policy in terms of how to package your purchases. As you can see from the image above, material bags will be the lightest and easiest packaging option to carry to and from the shop.

The plastic-free shop will be opening this November and will be on 5 Constitution Street in the City of Cape Town.

What do you think about this grocery store? And where should the next one be opened?

Ready to get NUDE?

We're hard at work unwrapping our first store. Lots to still do, but we're seriously excited to GET NUDE and hope you are too!
