Litterboom Project legends committed to a commendable several-day clean-up in Umgeni. As the big clean comes to an end, they’re gearing up to celebrate the finale with an epic beach jam:
Umgeni, South Africa (07 December 2023)—At the end of November, The Litterboom Project embarked on a massive mission—cleaning up the coastal ruins of Umgeni.
As South Africa’s first large-scale river interception programme, The Litterboom Project has time and time again shown South Africans that the plastic and waste problems we face do not need to be the end of the story.
Through committed work to our rivers, the Litterboom Project has played a big role in preventing plastic and other kinds of waste from eventually reaching oceans—true to its name that reflects a boom gate for litter flow.
With 10 rivers under the teams’ watch (8 in KwaZulu-Natal and 2 in the Western Cape); they are the guardians of gateways to our precious marine life. To date, they have 500,000 kilograms of collected waste under their belts.
When the team decided to commit to Umgeni for a consecutive clean-up, the 30 staff members knew they were in for a big mission.
What began on 27 November will soon reach its final day, which means its time to celebrate.
The final day of Umgeni (which will focus on Beachwood Mangrove) will also mark the Litterboom Project’s last beach jam of the year. It’s open for anyone to lend a hand, some moves, and soak up the vibes whilst doing something that matters.
