Predictions are stating that there will be big snow expected from today in the higher parts of the Drakensberg as well as neighbouring Lesotho.
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (31 May 2021) – With the first big snow out of the way already, the next big one is predicted to be on the way, starting as early as this evening.
What that means for parts of the country is, a very cold few days! Last month Afriski Mountain Resort shared their images showing the first snow of the season (which you can see here). This next snow is predicted to be much thicker than the first.
The resort had reported around 10cm of snow on the 30th of April. Some areas expecting as little as 30cm of snow with a possibility of 50cm! That is big snow! South Africa’s Drakensberg and high KwaZulu-Natal areas are predicted to get around 35cm.
The roads to all these areas will be dangerous, so if you find yourself needing to travel in these areas, please do so with caution!
The South African Weather Services have also issued statements regarding the upcoming weather. They urge small stock farmers and the public in the Free State to provide shelter to all animals. The same can be urged of all South Africans.

It is clear by weather predictions and even the drop in overall temperatures around the country that we are in for some seriously cold weather over the next week.
So stay tuned because if we do get some incredible snow, we will be sure to share the pictures with you. Until then, stay warm and stay safe! Keep those with less in mind, and be sure to donate any warm clothing and blankets to your nearest charity or animal welfare organisation.
