It’s Arbour Week, and the awesome folks at WILDTRUST and their partners decided to get their hands dirty to honour the occasion in the best way possible: by planting a whole lot of trees!
Tongaat, South Africa (03 September 2025) – We have officially entered the season of sunny days and pretty blooms, and for the tree huggers, Arbour Month too!
It’s a time to acknowledge and celebrate the importance of trees and the value they bring to our environment. Members of WILDTRUST honoured the occasion the best way they know how: by getting down, rolling up their sleeves and planting some trees.
This year, the team, together with its partners, planted an incredible 400 indigenous trees at the Maharishi Invincibility Institute in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal.
But what made the initiative twice as special was where these carefully nurtured trees came from.
“The trees were collected from local Tree-preneurs in Buffelsdraai, a legacy and flagship restoration project of the Trust.
“The Tree-preneur project is a WILDTRUST initiative which empowers local community members (mostly women and youth) to harvest seeds and cultivate indigenous tree saplings. When these trees reach a certain height, they are bought by WILDTRUST for livelihood support and planted into key restoration sites,” Wildlands explains.
Tree-planting volunteers also had the opportunity to visit the trees they planted last year, some of which were already taller than the people who planted them, showcasing the growth and environmental impact of the initiative.

“Everyone is already looking forward to visiting the trees again next year and planting even more trees.”
WILDTRUST looks forward to holding more tree planting events as they “green” more spaces around South Africa in pursuit of the vision for a sustainable future for people and planet.
The team expressed its gratitude to its partners and sponsors for their support of the Tree-preneur project, which allows WILDTRUST to continue supporting the lives that depend on them.
