British TV star Tom Read Wilson has done it again… this time hilariously embracing “Tsek”, proving that a little slang and a lot of charm can unite us all through laughter.
Global (17 April 2025) – Tom Read Wilson is at it again… and this time, he’s taken one of South Africa’s most iconic expressions and turned it into comedic gold.
If his name rings a bell, that’s because this isn’t his first appearance on Good Things Guy. A few months back, we featured the eloquent and ever-charming British host of “Celebs Go Dating” for his brilliant take on the local phrase “Don’t tune me grief.”
Now, Tom has returned to delight his growing South African fanbase with another linguistic gem.
This time, it’s our beloved “Tsek.”
Tom has a viral series on social media called “Phrase of the Day”, where he explores expressions from around the world. It’s witty, it’s warm, and it’s a masterclass in making language fun again. He doesn’t just repeat the phrases, he dives into them, unpacks their meaning and delivers them with so much flair that even the most seasoned linguist would have to smile.
In his latest instalment, Tom takes on “Tsek,” a local slang word that’s short for voetsek… a sharp, no-nonsense way of telling someone to get lost. And true to form, he does it with the kind of theatrical delivery that makes you want to send it to every group chat you’re in.
We won’t ruin all the magic (cause it’s incredibly rude) but highlights includes: “Pineapple on pizza can tsek.”

There’s something quite special about seeing our everyday phrases, often thrown around with a bit of sass and spice, given a global spotlight in the most respectful, delightful way. It reminds us of the richness of our language and the joy of sharing it.
We can’t wait to see what phrase he takes on next… but until then, anyone who disrespects boerewors rolls, bunny chow, or Mrs Ball’s chutney can kindly tsek.
