The Drakensberg Boys Choir just released a cover of the song “Heat Waves” that famously put the original musicians on the map during the lockdown.

KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (31 March 2023) – While most of South Africa is feeling the weather shift from Summer to Autumn, the Drakensberg Mountains are feeling “Heat Waves”. Ok not really, but the Drakensberg Boys Choir did just release a cover of the record-holding song by Glass Animals.

The band, which wrote the song in one “weird peak pandemic night” and filmed during one of the hard lockdowns in the UK, went from being fairly unknown, to internationally known overnight. Since the song was released, it held a place on the Hot 100 list and went on to set a record in 2022 for the longest-ever run on the Billboard 100 list.

The Drakensberg Boys Choir, not the full ensemble, but a few of the young men, came together to perform their slower version of “heat waves” for local fans.

The young men can be seen singing around the grand piano, accompanied by a box drum and their voices. The mellowed-out version of the song is a new favourite!

Take a look at their latest release below.
