Someone asked a group of water savers ‘what is the first thing they would do when the rains come and the drought is over, the answers will inspire you!

The Facebook Group “Water Shedding Western Cape” is filled with dedicated water savers who have spent months working to perfect their water-saving skills. The drought has caused so many people to become extremely strict with their water usage and to abandon all indulgences like bathing and shaving properly.

Marcia Day decided to have a little fun and ask “What will be the first thing you would do when the rain comes and restrictions are over?”… Everyone has jumped at the opportunity to indulge in a little fantasy of what it will be like when the water is back.

We loved reading the responses, especially that most plan to stick to their water saving ways even if the drought ends.

Many were keen to have long showers or baths…

Take a very long bath… then continue to save water.” – Helen Lenting Braaf

Bath, shave my legs, wash my hair, scrub my heels after a long soak and then let all the water into the garden when I’m finished” – Aimee Philippa Hoppe

Others want to reconnect with nature or strip down and run in the rain.

Thank the Lord ..run outside and take a long walk in the rain” – Bonnie Poysden

“Dance in the rain.” – Louisa Truter

Some plan to clean and wash everything!

“Be thankful. …then wash everything in site” – Margaret Benbrook La Buschagne

“Winter rain cleaning, previously known as spring cleaning” – Leanne Hewitt

“Wash all the dog blankets” – Caroline Gilmour

Mostly, people have admitted that they plan to remain water-wise as this issue probably will become a reoccurring one.

“Give thanks… but my water-saving ways are here to stay. I don’t think we can take it for granted ever again.” – Sharon Dagnin

I don’t think I’ll change anything, except maybe opening the toilet tap again and having proper showers a little more often. Even then, I’m pretty happy to go on almost exactly as we are. We’ve cut down so much on excess usage, and evolved our normal lifestyle with a few tweaks. Water is life and it will serve us all to continuing to save it.” – Carl Lowton

Showcase ultimate heartfelt gratitude and absolutely- Continue saving water day by day.” – Mogamat Saliem Amlay

What would you do?
