Matthew Brink, like many excited South Africans, spent some time filming the recent snow in Gauteng and turned it into a beautiful video.

Gauteng, South Africa (12 July 2023) – Snow falling in Gauteng is an incredibly rare occurrence and one that always brings a great sense of joy. Matthew Brink captured the snow day and has shared it online to immortalise the memory.

The last time Joburgers witnessed this white wonderland was back in August 2012. Before that, you have to go as far back as June 2007, September 1981, June 1964, August 1962, and even May 1956. So, you can imagine the surprise on everyone’s faces when they woke up to a winter wonderland today.

Social media was loaded with photos and videos of the snow and it spread as far as Mpumalanga. It was a dose of joy and fun loved by everyone. Joburg charities were equally sprinkled in support due to the need to protect those who faced the elements unprepared.

Charity Begins with Me celebrated the donation of hundreds of beanies and sweaters for the children it supports – just in time; while One SMALL Act of Kindness rallied its supporters to make soup in just 6 hours and then went on to commit to feeding people every day this week as the cold spell lingers.

Take a look at the video below. If you want to share your snow day images and videos, you can do so in the comment section for all to see.
