Before the release of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, re-live the classic original that’s way darker than you remember.
Just in time before Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle hits theaters, Screen Junkies has released an Honest Trailer for Joe Johnston’s 1995 fantasy adventure film starring Robin Williams.
While the new game sucks Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black into the jungle in the form of a video game, Robin Williams had to contend with the jungle invading the real world after spending decades in the jungle himself.
It’s 22 years later, and the honest video takes a good look back at the original Jumanji through the lens of Honest Trailers.
The film stars Williams as Alan Parrish, a kid who became trapped in a magical board game for decades, only to be freed as an adult when two orphans find the box. Now back in the real world, he must finish the game and learn to let go of his childhood—making Jumanji basically “Hook, but in reverse.”
And as the video points out, the characters’ have a clear obsession to finish the game and then goes on to compare Robin Williams’ Jumanji character with his Hook role.
