The celebrations have begun, and all the Santa Shoeboxes donated this year are now in the hands of the children—it’s heartwarming!
South Africa (18 November 2024) – Months of hard work, volunteering and planning have gone into the 2024 Santa Shoebox Project. This year, generous South Africans donated just shy of 75,000 beautifully decorated boxes filled with so many wonderful gifts. Now, the celebrations have begun, and our hearts are melting with joy!
Each of the schools, ECDs, orphanages and children’s homes will start hosting Christmas parties now, where the children will get to open their boxes and delight in the gifts selected just for them. Seeing the joy on their faces is heartwarming.
We adore this time of year, and knowing that a whole lot of goodness comes from the kindness of others makes it even more special!
Each box is filled with toothpaste, a toothbrush, a bar of soap, a washcloth, an outfit or item of clothing, educational supplies, some sweets and an age-appropriate toy. These essentials help children who don’t always get a gift have access to the toiletries and treats for the year. Sure, the sweeties might not last, but the love felt on the day sure does!
About the Santa Shoebox Project
The Santa Shoebox Project was started in 2006 as a way for people to provide gifts to children who often go without during the festive season. The first roll-out saw just 180 gift boxes distributed to children in need. In 18 years, donors have reached 1,226,756 children. Now, with the 19th year running, that number will rise once again.
You can join the festivities next year by checking out the website here and following along on social media.
