The Saxonwold Shebeen has officially been added to the Zomato directory as a newly opened “Hidden Gem” near Rosebank and the reviews are hilarious!
Zomato is a web based app that lists itself as the “best option to search for and discover great places to eat”. The restaurant directory provides users with in-depth information on delivery, dine-out, nightlife and catching-up places around consumers.
Users can discover the perfect place based on choice of cuisine, locality, cost or user ratings using a wide range of filters, such as happy hours, open now, live music, bar etc…
They also have a section where users can look up the menu and read reviews for the restaurant before choosing where to dine.
And now they have a listing for the infamous Saxonwold Shebeen!
The fake listing calls Saxonwold Shebeen a newly opened “Hidden Gem” open everyday from 6am to 6am. The venue also apparently costs around R8000 for two people but that does include alcohol and no take-aways!
The user reviews are even funnier…
Janine Theron wrote: “Best place to be during loadshedding as they are guaranteed to never lose power. A little pricey, but then again it is all about location, location, location.”
Cory also reviewed the Shebeen: “Very exciting venue. And, frequented by interesting multitalented people too. It’s truly hidden and requires a little driving around Saxonwold to find and in the process, you may even run past some coal mining magnates and industrial giants. Slightly pricey for the ordinary person but if you mix with the right people, and you’re not very risk averse, you’ll discover that there is such a thing as a free lunch after all.”
Pam Lourenco added: “One of the hidden gems in Joburg. Friendly staff (if you have the influence and the cash) and amazingly efficient guard dogs to ensure your immediate protection or demise. Specials include ministerial positions, houses in Dubai as well as 600 million cash, provided you have the right bag. Please check that you have the right bag before being seated. The staff, although friendly are easily annoyed when caught unawares and they have a hot headed lawyer on standby. The atmosphere is lavish, albeit gaudy and the lights are low giving it a feeling of “underhandedness”. A must go! You will leave feeling refreshed, with a better outlook on life, unless you don’t like their specials. Then you will leave despondent and with a sudden urge to shower 5 times.”
