A South African is going viral after an almost serious selfie incident.

South Africa – We see them everywhere, Selfie photos and videos have become a “normal” thing in society but so have selfie accidents and even death!

A 2018 study of news reports showed that between October 2011 to November 2017, there were 259 selfie deaths in 137 incidents reported globally, with the highest occurrences in India followed by Russia, United States, and Pakistan. The average age was 22 years old, with male deaths outnumbering female about three to one.

And South Africa nearly landed up on the list thanks to Smangesihle Ngcobo who was filming a selfie video when he was hit by a bus.

Smanga was walking with friends when he decided to do a selfie video. He saw the bus behind him but didn’t realise the turning circle might come into contact with him.

But it did… and social media have rapidly been sharing the video, with many users left in hysterics by what Smanga did, and how he “coughed” himself back to life.

Smanga went straight to the hospital for a check-up after the incident but only left with a bruised ego and a promise to never take selfie videos again.

“I almost died but I did learn my lesson.” – Smangesihle Ngcobo
