Cape Town, South Africa (13 March 2025) — Greenpoint’s Fan Walk is set to come alive with all the vibes this weekend as Capetonians celebrate the 2025 Cape Town Carnival—one of the most anticipated family-friendly events of the year.

Communities from across the city come together for all things carnival, and this year, they’re in for even more treats than usual!

Fabulous Floats and All Kinds of Familiar Festivities

Every year, the Cape Town Carnival fashions fabulous floats made possible by many hard-working hands. The floats are no simple arts and crafts projects. Instead, they tie vision, design and engineering together with a glittering bow and cause a crowd of cheering and wowing. Last year, we saw larger-than-life dragons and candy fever dreams on the move, and we’re sure this year will take the creativity even further.

Additionally, bringing us all kinds of festivity are the usual carnival culprits (the Cape Town firefighters, marching band, traditional dancers and other crowd favourites) who, year after year, make the Carnival the splash it is.

Taking the Cape by Storm

A new and exciting reason to the visit the 2025 Cape Town Carnival (especially if you’re a rugby fan) is that the DHL Stormers are coming to town!

This year, the Stormers will parade via their own custom ‘Taking the Cape by Storm’ float, where they’ll interact with fans down Somerset Street.

Bow Down for Rio’s Carnival Queen

Attendees are going to be in the presence of carnival royalty, thanks to the stunning Erika Januza, AKA Rio’s Carnival Queen. Erika has held the official title ‘Queen of the Drums’ for three years and will be visiting the Cape Town Carnival as a special guest this year, hot on the heels of her performance at THE Rio Carnival!

The Drag Cartel

There are more queens to get excited about. Cape Town’s The Drag Cartel (Maxine Wild, Dee Blogging, Diamante Eclipse, Valentina Petronella (LeCap), Le Baby and Emogen Moore) are joining Erika to slay the house down.

Rapping up the Parade

Legendary artists like YoungstaCPT and Hip hop star Bravo Le Roux are part of the music line-up for the Carnival, and if you saw YoungstaCPT perform last year, you know that this is not a performance to miss.

Additionally, Paxton Fielies—one of the Cape’s brightest stars will also be a part of the line-up as well as the SA Youth Choir—so be sure to wear your groove shoes.

15 Years of Carnival

This year is a particularly special class of carnival as it marks 15 years of celebrations. Says Jay Douwes, Cape Town Carnival CEO:

“This year we mark 15 incredible years celebrating community-based creativity and culture – if you haven’t been to Greenpoint in March, you haven’t experienced the most life-affirming event of the year.”

‘It really has been incredible to witness the Cape Town Carnival’s growth from an event with just over 11,000 spectators on Long Street in 2010 to a fully-fledged festival attracting around 30,000 people,” adds Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

“Over the last 15 years, the carnival has become an unmissable, family-friendly event celebrating our country’s diversity, culture, creativity, and the arts while promoting a sense of community. For the City of Cape Town, being part of the carnival’s growth has been a source of pride not only for the way in which the event has shone a global spotlight on our city, but its dedication to providing a platform to develop talented performers, artisans who design the floats, costume designers and production specialists.”
