Three-year-old Arlo Venter loves to sing Shosholoza. He decided, while his mom was snapping a picture, he would sing it and a group of young men joined him.

The Venter family were on holiday at Glenmore Beach, South Africa when they experienced the power of music. Sonnika Venter had her husband pose on a nearby bridge with the kids while she ran down to the river bank to take a picture of the family.

While she as taking the picture, her three-year-old son Arlo burst into song and started singing his favourite song, Shosholoza! Sonnika thought it was just too precious and quickly started filming the scene.

All of a sudden a group of young men playing further down by the rocks joined in and started to sing Shosholoza too.

“Our 3year old son, Arlo Venter (from Paarl) loves singing and does almost everything with a song. As we were leaving the beach on Sunday, 10 December, he broke out in song, singing Shosholoza.”

“This is a favourite at home and at school (where his mom happens to be the music teacher). Mom was preparing to take a snap of dad and his boys crossing the bridge when Arlo broke out in song.”

“Naturally, I switched to video and I am so glad I did as this is what happened…”

“A group of local boys responded surprisingly with so much zest and energy! The connection and feeling of friendship were instant and very powerful.”

Watch the beautiful video below, it truly captures the spirit of South Africa!

Arlo (3) loves singing… He started singing Shosholoza as we were making our way home from a morning on the beach. He got this amazing response… This experience has added a whole new dimension to the power and beauty of music, for us…
