After more than a year of silence, South Africa’s beloved DIY darling is back on our screens… and she’s got lemons, laughs and a whole lot of mousse.
South Africa (21 June 2025) – There are few things as South African as a braai on a Sunday, complaining about loadshedding, or watching Suzelle DIY make literally anything feel like an event. And after a year-long break, everyone’s favourite DIY queen is officially back. This time with lemons, laughter, and one of the most delightfully simple desserts ever: Lemon Mousse!
Yes, you read that right. Suzelle DIY has returned to our screens and we couldn’t be happier. It’s been a year since her last upload, but like a long-lost friend who walks through the door holding a bowl of pudding and a glue gun, she’s picked up right where she left off.
She doesn’t acknowledge the fact that she’s been quiet for a whole year in the video. She just launches straight into the quirkiest mousse-making session ever filmed.
For those who may be new here (welcome, we’ll get you a braai pie in a second), Suzelle DIY is the hilarious alter-ego of South African actress and comedian Julia Anastasopoulos. She became a national treasure with her charmingly over-the-top YouTube videos that taught us everything from “How to Peel Lots of Apples” to “How to Survive Loadshedding” using household items, duct tape and an unshakable can-do attitude.
What made her videos so loved wasn’t just the helpful hacks, it was the comedic brilliance, the relatability, the characters (we see you, Marianne) and the way she made us all feel like we could do something fabulous with a pool noodle and a dream.
But then… silence.
Her last YouTube upload was over a year ago, and we’re sure fans have been wondering: where’s Suzelle? Is she okay? Has she run out of glue sticks? Did Marianne finally stage a DIY mutiny?
The good news is, while Suzelle may have taken a little sabbatical, Julia Anastasopoulos, the incredibly talented brain behind the character, has been far from idle. Over the past few years, she’s dazzled fans with her hit comedy Tali’s Wedding Diary and Tali’s Joburg Diary, played a key role in the acclaimed local drama The Shakedown and kept her audience laughing and inspired through her personal social media platforms.
And now, without much fuss or fanfare, Suzelle has made her triumphant return and the response has been overwhelmingly joyful.
“Welcome back, Suzelle!! I missed you!!” one fan commented. “Omg! Suzelle is back!” wrote another.
There’s something genuinely comforting about seeing her back in her DIY apron, surrounded by pastel props and pots of cream. It’s funny, it’s familiar, and it’s exactly the kind of serotonin boost many of us didn’t realise we needed.
So go on, grab a whisk, squeeze a lemon and press play. Suzelle DIY is back, and the internet is better for it.
