Kumkani Pilonti’s inspiring journey from a small town to a rising acting star is proof that greatness can grow from anywhere!
Stilfontein, South Africa (10 November 2025) – As a young teen growing up in the small town of Stilfontein in the North West, Kumkani Pilonti has his sights set on becoming one of the greatest acting talents to come out of our nation.
With a dream that’s bigger than his small-town beginnings, Kumkani has always believed that passion, faith, and consistency can take you places you never imagined – and his journey so far is proof of that.
The 17-year-old started acting during lockdown, creating short videos on TikTok as a way to express himself. What began as a fun, creative outlet soon turned into real opportunities that changed his life.
Kumkani was cast in Thabo & The Rhino Case, a German-South African film produced by an Academy Award-winning producer, Peter Hermann, which gave him his first taste of international filmmaking.
“Shortly after, I portrayed the younger version of Pallance Dladla’s character in Reyka, the Emmy-nominated South African crime series that reached audiences around the world,” Kumkani tells Good Things Guy.
While some may frown on coming from overlooked backgrounds. Kumkani believes it’s where one can thrive the most.
“Having the chance to be the one who changes how millions of other people think is the greatest gift that doesn’t need much motivation to be carried out,” he says.
The young star, who grew up in a family of seven children, shares that his acting dreams were born from the happy moments they all shared sitting in front of the TV screen.
“With all the joy I got from watching the TV, it became a question of how I could have a role in helping other families share happy moments using the same method, and that’s how I found myself in front of the screen,” shares Kumkani, who is passionate about relatable storytelling that inspires and empowers.

“My parents take turns driving me, sometimes before sunrise or after long days. Those journeys have become a reminder of the dedication, teamwork, and love behind every dream.”
With drive and determination to bag more incredible roles, Kumkani hopes his journey will inspire youngsters and anyone with a dream that may require putting in the work and covering a little more distance than others.
“I’ve learned that success doesn’t depend on where you come from, but on how far you’re willing to go for what you believe in. My story is still being written, but I hope it inspires other young people to keep going, even when the road feels long, because dreams really can come true with hard work and heart.”
